Day in The Life: Jackson Hole in Autumn with Mike Gardner
We'll make a bold statement but hear us out: autumn in the Tetons is the best time of year. The temps are still warm, but the evenings are crisp. The big summer tourist season has passed and everything is just a little more chill and laid back. The best part though is that there's still an abundance of recreating outside and enough daylight to relish the season before it changes.
We were fortunate to recently connect with our friends Mike Gardner and Drew Smith. Mike, like Wild Common's founder Andy, is a fellow Exum Mountain Guide alumnus and all around mountain badass. He describes himself as a "reluctant alpinist" and like many of us finds immense joy in exploring the mountains.
Drew is a photographer, brand ambassador, and mountain athlete. He has a unique photojournalism style that we love, harmonizing nature and athlete. Together, they're the sort of people you might run into on any given day in town and its surrounding communities. The incredible people that live and visit here are one of things we love most about Jackson Hole.
A few weeks ago, Drew documented a day in the life with Mike, a modern outdoor renaissance man. His resume is a thing of envy, including several seasons as a professional skier, many technical mountaineering accomplishments and having climbed or skied on every continent. What sets him apart is his dimensionality and it's why following Mike for a day is so much fun. You're just as likely to find him at the local skatepark or working on his dirt bike as you are on the trail or the summit.
Did we mention Mike loves Mezcal? Mike and Drew closed out their ideal fall day in Jackson with a simple cocktail made with our Mezcal Ensamble. The recipe is as straightforward as it gets: Tajín-rimmed Mason jar, freshly squeezed lime, Mezcal, ice, and soda water. We highly recommend you try this after your multi-sport day.
We're stoked to be in their orbits. Cheers Mike and Drew. Photo Credit: Drew Smith
